Qitadaban Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Middle Qilian (north-central Gansu-Qinghai border region). The Qitadaban Formation was named by Qian Jiagi in 1986. The typical section is situated in Qitadaban in Subei County and the reference section is in Hua'erdi in Subei County in Gansu Province (bounded with Tianjun County, Qinghai Province). Lowest formation in Gongcha Gr.

Lithology and Thickness
The Qitadaban Fm is dominantly composed of purple to grayish purple feldspathic quartzose sandstone and siltstone interbedded with grayish yellow to greenish gray medium to fine-grained quartzose sandstone, siltstone and argillite, which formed as thin to medium-bedded rhythmites. The color grades upward from purple to gray, then to greenish gray and black. There is an upward increase in the sandy component and maturity. The thickness is from 1055 to 1310 m

The lower part rests disconformably on the Hua'erdi Fm (Huaerdi Fm), uppermost formation in the Tuolainanshan Gr
Upper contact
The upper part conformably underlies the Wugeshan Fm
Regional extent
Middle Qilian (north-central Gansu-Qinghai border region). With a trend of NW to SE, the Qitadaban Formation is distributed in a belt area from Hudonggou to Chaganburgas, extending southeast to Hua'erdi and Wugeshan in Qinghai Province.

Fossils
The Qitadaban Formation yields microplants dominated by Trachysphaeridium incrassatum, T. simplex, T.cultum, T. chihsienense, Pseudozonosphaera uerrucosa, Asperatopsophosphaera umishanensis, Polyporata obsoleta, P. microporata etc.
